Basic SEO Principles

By: Kris Beus
The creation of a website is a magical feeling as everything comes together.  You spend days if not weeks working on this website or blog putting it together piece by piece.  Stressing every detail from the littlest type of format in the title to the content and where it will be placed.  All of this is great for those who are wanting to start an online business, but after the creation of your presence and no one begins to come you suddenly realize that without any marketing whatsoever there is no chance building any traffic.  The saddest things I have seen is webmasters and bloggers with great content, but they don't understand basic internet marketing and seo practices which lead them to a very low level of success.  The idea I have always lived with when it comes to online business is when you create something you want to be seen then you have to create roads for your visitors travel.  By roads I of course mean links  on top websites and blogs related in your niche.

Once you have the idea of creating basic content and building links towards your main web presence.  The next step will be learning everything you can about keywords and terms.  These are basically the essence of search engines optimization and the more you understand the better off your website will place.  One of the first checks you need to do when learning about any given keyword or term is going to Google and searching for "Google Adwords Keyword Tool".  This will bring up a tool which allows you to see the monthly search volume of any keyword typed in.  Not only will it tell you the search volume of the term you typed in, but it will also show you the search volume of a hundred other terms closely related to the term you typed into Google.  With this information you should easily be able to set up keywords and terms across your website.  Usually what I will do is take some of the most searched for terms and optimize the index of my website for these then some of the lesser keyword terms being searched for I will optimize my sub pages or blog posts for.

That explains some of the basics when it comes to search engine optimization.  The last SEO topic I want to cover and one that I really don't think has been covered enough is time.  In the first few months of your website you will be lucky if you can even get indexed into Google.  Next you will need to spend a few months building links towards certain terms which if you build enough links you will show up in the top thousand.  Between month 5 to 12 you will be working on ranking in the top three for some of these terms.  It does take a long time because your are playing catch up with the websites and blogs already out there, but if your persistent and understand the time frame you will be fine.

Increasing Your Traffic Through Blog Comments

By: Alvin Makoani
Blog commenting can be a very effective way of bringing traffic to your blog. I know how ineffective it can be if done poorly, but if you do it the right way you could very easily flood your site with traffic.
For one you shouldnt do it like everone else. Most people visit many sites in a single day and try to leave as many comments as possible. Sometimes, it is even spam. You copy a whole paragraph in a post and paste it in the comment box then call it a comment. This is one easy way of losing your credibility and being labelled as a spammer.
If you want to get results from your commenting it would be a good idea to follow this steps.
  • Comment on niche related blogs- You want targeted traffic right? It would be of no use if somebody interested in dog collars visited your site. You want visitors coming to your site because they are looking for something you have to offer.
  • Blogs with comment luv- If you can comment on blogs with comment luv enabled you could gain more traffic. This is because your most recent post is shown below your comment. This means by commenting you will be promoting your posts free and in the right way.
  • Don't concentrate on the popular blogs only- This blogs may get up to a hundred comments. This means you will be competing with a hundred people for attention. It may be very difficult to get any results. However commenting on a blog that gets ten comments or so and has a decent amount of traffic can work very well for you.
  • Quality not quantity- Instead of writing fifty useless comments which would interest nobody, it would be a good idea to devote your time making ten sensible comments. People don't click on your link because they have nothing else to do. They do because they think you are interesting.
  • Be the first to comment- Most blogs show the oldest comments first while the newest come last. This means that if you are the first to comment you will appear at the very top for maximum exposure. Not many people would take time to wade through a hundred comments but the first five surely get noticed.
This tips can help you get lots of traffic from commenting. If you are trying to make money blogging, traffic means more money. Follow them and you will surely see some results from your efforts.

5 Realities of Blogging for Money!

By: TJ Philpott
If you are blogging for money there are certain 'realities' you must get clear on if you intend to be successful! Not everybody is going to get rich online by operating a small business blog simply because many will quit their efforts before they experience any success. This is not an endeavor that will bring overnight results but instead requires a sustained effort over time before any type of financial success is achieved.

Here are 5 realities you can fully expect to experience when you start blogging in terms of what it will take for you to achieve any financial success with your site.

Patience is a Virtue!

Actually this virtue is a must since blog building takes time and there is no way around that. You can not flip a switch to create loyalty since only time will make that possible. If you expect to achieve any degree of financial success with a small business blog you must first gain the loyalty of your subscribers.

Consistency is Needed!

When you start blogging the only way you can expect people to come visit is by posting fresh and interesting content. To keep them coming back you will need to post updates consistently so people will know they can expect something new giving them a reason to return.

Promoting is Required

Although updating your site will help generate traffic by pinging the search engines, it is recommended to use other tactics as well to help increase your traffic flow. Whether it is leaving links at forums or  social sites or even writing articles you want as many people to know about your small business blog as possible.

Interaction is Encouraged

Allow for comments and respond to any that are directed at you as the site administrator. This helps to develop a sense of community amongst loyal readers while also serving as social proof to any new visitors who land on the site. Comments or any other signs of interactivity serve as a validation that there is something of interest to or popular with visitors who frequent the platform.

Sustained Efforts Will Be Rewarded

As already discussed above you will need to be patient while you consistently put forth the effort to keep your site updated and generate traffic. Provided your theme and/or niche selection is a profitable one the product of your efforts will be rewarded with your financial success.

When blogging for money your expectations must be realistic in order to achieve any type of financial success from a small business blog. The  realities are that this is not an endeavor where you will get rich online overnight but you can experience success with the right amount of focus and effort. The 5 realities discussed here today serve to help better prepare anybody desiring to earn an income from their small business blog. In this way one will be in a much better position to achieve the financial success which is being sought!

How to Add a Tip Jar to Your Blog

How to Add a Tip Jar to Your Blog

By: Brenda Moody

Let's face it, bloggers do spend a lot of time on articles, links and trying to provide good information for their readers. The work does pay off, but it takes some time before a blogger can have enough of an audience to impact the money they make. There are two ways a blogger can make money. One is through people clicking on their advertisements. Unfortunately, because of this there are a vast amount of sites plastered with ads with no real content. The other bloggers work very hard at content and establishing their blog to make money from either adsense clicks or from affiliate advertisements. Growing slowly is another way to make money, a tipjar. This is a real incentive for bloggers to provide quality information on their sites.

The question is, if a blogger does want to add a tipjar to their blog, what are the options?

Paypal offers a simple donation button that can be added to your blog. It is inserted easily by copying a pasting the html code into your template. In order to get the button, you must first have a premier or business account through Paypal. Upgrading doesn't cost you anything. There are, however, small transactions fees for payments you receive. The benefit of using Paypal is that it is a trusted and secure method or giving or receiving payments and most online users are familiar with Paypal. A user can use a credit card or debit. There is no muss or fuss with paypal and you cut out the middleman.

Here is where you can find out more about setting up a donation button at Paypal:

Log in to your account and choose Merchant Services.

Under buttons, choose donate.

Create your button as you choose.

Add code to your blog template.

You will need a Premier or Business account to use this feature.

Another option is Tipjoy. With Tipjoy, both the sender and receiver of the tip need to have a Tipjoy account. The person tipping can wait for a bill at the end of the month or pay sooner if they choose. The receiver can wait until they have accumulated enough funds and then cash it out through paypal.

The sender intially only has to provide his email and the amount of his tip to tip a blog. He can tip several blogs and at the end of the month, pay his bill at Tipjoy. The payment will be through Paypal.

The receiver also must eventually have an account. Although a Tipjoy tipper can tip to any website url, even those with no Tipjoy account, in order for them to recieve the payment, they need to set up an account. Tipjoy notifies them when they have enough money tipped to be paid.

The downside is that the tipper must have two accounts, Tipjar and Paypal. The upside is that because fewer transactions are made, the blog recieving payments keeps more of the tip than with Paypal donation.

Another tip jar available for bloggers is called Scratchback. Scratchback adds another element to tipping. The blogger can set the tip rate and for each tip recieved, the blogger provides the tipper with an image or a link as a thank you.

The way the fees work at Scratchback as of this writing is that the blogger keeps 90% of the tip after the Paypal fee is taken out.

So for those of you who love the information you can enjoy on blogs and for those of you blogging, tipjars are something you might want to consider. Even a small donation of less than a dollar can put a smile on the face of your favorite blogger. The point is that you are showing encouragement for the continued effort. For bloggers, this is an incentive to create and continue adding quality news for your readers.

Creating Blog Posts and Articles

Creating Blog Posts and Articles

By: Kris Beus

If you decide to create a blog or website and want to become an authority within your niche it is mandatory that you produce quality content. This content can either be in the form of blog posts or articles and personally I recommend both. There is several reasons that you should be creating content the first and most important is visitor and reader satisfaction. The second reason you should produce content is for your internet marketing campaign. When you create the article or blog post you can submit it to article directories which will allow you to place your websites link in the authors resource and this will help your website rank higher within search engines. When creating content for your website there is a couple things you should be thinking about. The content should be focused towards your niche. This means if you are running a blog about online business you should not post articles about fish or some other unrelated topic. You should also do your research to make sure that the content is accurate and will not hurt your blog or websites brand.

Once you start writing content it is not something that you will ever finish. Traffic will come and read what you have written after some basic internet marketing, but if you don't have new or updated content then you will not be seen as an authority. If you want to be the expert or authority of your niche creating a constant stream of accurate, unique, and helpful content is the key. The problem is everyone thinks they know everything about their niche and can write as if they are the authority. True authority does not come from within, but rather from external sources. You will be labeled the authority when the other webmasters and bloggers in your niche label you as such. This means you must keep learning if you want to succeed online and never stop. Once your ideas become outdated or inaccurate then you can quickly lose your status.

Now after you have started creating content there are things you can do to market the content and your web presence. The easiest way to market your content is submitting to article directories. This will help your website in two ways. The first way is from the article directory itself. You will gain backlinks from the article directory and a little authority from being published within the directory especially if it is ezinearticles.com. The second way it will benefit your website is when webmasters and bloggers need relevant content they look to article directories. If they decide to publish your article they have to publish the article with the author's resource. I have personally had one article published over 10 times on 10 different blogs and websites. Not only did I get the links from the article directory, but also do follow links from the web presences that published my article.

What's Your Purpose For Blogging???

What's Your Purpose For Blogging???

By: Michael Lyon

Ok, so you've now created your blog, you have your new template, time to add some content.

Or IS IT?

Before you think about adding the content, ie; your posting (something you've written), I need you to understand a few things, your reading this on Article base or my blog http://freeultimatesupertips.blogspot.com/ However its my original content...

First of all let's examine

  • The reason for your blog.

  • Your expectations.

  • Your audience.

Let's assume just for one minute that's the reason why you're here is not just to learn how to set up a blog but to earn a six figure income or even just a few bucks.

What you need to FULLY understand is your new blog is like a tiny Island in the middle of an enormous ocean

.An Island that no one except you have ever heard of.

In order to get people to visit your tiny Island you need to provide them with first of all the knowledge that it even exists and secondly how to get there.

This is the WHY I ask the reason for your blog.

By now you have probably been pulled into people's adverts, (squeeze pages) high pressure selling techniques, and paid money to sign up to join all kind of get rich schemes, they offer 100's of dollars worth of Free aids (normally Free e-books) memberships to Guru sites, seminars and loads more.

Start making money in 10 minutes from now….We'd all like to be like them….if only it was that simple, no one would work, everyone would stay at home earning a six figure income.

The people selling these systems are part of huge affiliate marketing groups, you can join for small enough money (at the bottom of their ladder).

They give you all the tools, 100's of tools, they even set up the squeeze pages, the affiliate links the whole lot.

I recently bought a package, (I checked it out for scam probability first), Amazing reports, came up over 2.5million hits in Google search, best thing since sliced bread, the re-invention of the wheel in Internet terms, Guaranteed to make 1000's.

There were so many tools, (e-books) it took me 3 solid days to browse them, not read and take in the information fully.

The package was complete, however still full of further squeeze page ad's trying to part me with more cash. Some even offering a 60 day free trial and only after the trial finished I'd pay, bull, after the 60 days I'd pay 57 dollars a month, but if I took advantage of this one time offer TODAY I'd pay only 27dollars a month, free trial with a catch, eh.

Do YOU want to be like them?

Regarding earnings I'm sure you do….. so do I…..

Let's get to the real point……

They can sell you the package, they can set you up with all the tools, they can give you all the advice you need, but are they going to create the traffic to your ISLAND?

Simply NO NO and NO…..

I doesn't matter what package or get rich quick scheme or money earner you subscribe to, YOU have to develop the traffic.

These people even tell you that you don't need a site or a blog, True, there are many ways you can generate traffic to the squeeze page, they provide with your affiliate link but it all takes time and work, a lot of time and work.

Unless you have an established blog or site getting tons of hits every day it will take you a lot of time and work.

If you were to do just a couple of hours a day like they suggest in their squeeze ad's you'd be 150 years old by the time you see a return.

I have a good friend of mine he was getting over 7000 hits a day on his site and over 1500 followers, he decided to affiliate, drop in a few squeeze pages, its surprising how quick his followers and hits dropped off. It took a long time to re-gain the confidence of his group.

I'm sure all the Guru's who read this, if they even bother, very unlikely, would disagree, but I'd challenge them to start from fresh Today and get traffic to their Island as quick as they expect you to do it.

To start with try and find a URL or domain name that's still available using" make money" in the title.

Yes you can use key words, that helps.

Don't get me wrong, It can be done, It is being done, but it's not as easy as these people make it out to be.

THIS IS THE REASON WHY I ASK YOU TO EXAMINE YOUR MOTIVES FOR BLOGGING…….

I hope I haven't burst your bubble….. there are ways to get people to visit your Island, and I'm going to try and show you the more simple ways but it still involves work.

You don't think this article wrote itself, or do you?

Regarding your expectations, even if you get people to your Island you will need to look after them, after all it was you that invited them, now you need to feed them give them something to drink, maybe then they will want to come back, especially if it's a nice Island with plenty to do and see, people don't want to come to your Island for nothing. So if they find nothing they surely won't stay or it's unlikely they will come back.

Well that's it for today, examine your motives, if it's to make a six figure income then maybe I can't help you, but if you just genuinely want to Blog and maybe gain a few Bucks to help you along the way then maybe you will come back for the next chapter.

How To Start A Successful Blog?

By: Ahmad Hassam

Do you know the characteristics of successful blogs? Successful blogs that make a lot of money have a lot of readers so if you want to have success with your blog, focus on getting lots of readers. There are many ways to go about getting readers, but you should know that only about a handful of them work to get you the readers that you desire.

If you didn't already know, you need a blog so that you can propel your business to the next level. I think it's plain to see that having a blog can do a lot for your business growth. In the internet marketing world, there's an old saying that says "the money is in the list", so if you want to earn money with your blog, focus on building a list.

Popular blogs have a readership level in the thousands. It could take some time to build this up from scratch or you can pay for advertising and set up a capture page to get users to subscribe to your blog. I personally feel that the first option of building a list from scratch is better. With this you are using free advertising. For one these people know you and like you and have grown to listen to your advice. If you think that you can't build a successful blog from scratch, then think again.

Internet marketing in general is hard, and building a successful blog is even harder. Popular blogs get a lot of traffic on a daily basis but you shouldn't let this discourage you if you're not getting a lot of traffic yet. You want to build successful blogs so that you can be perceived as an obvious expert in your niche. With credibility behind you, it will be easier for you to sell your products and services.

It doesn't matter what you use to monetize your blog - you need a lot of subscribers to make it successful. If you have Google AdSense on your blog, you should know that you will get a lot of clicks, but to repeatedly see the numbers rise in your favor, you need a following of people who will visit your blog on a daily basis. This is something that successful blogs have.

I mentioned above that successful blogs have a lot of traffic to their blog. This is important because without a lot of traffic you're dead in the water. You need a lot of traffic if you want to survive in the internet marketing world - that's just marketing 101. There are a ton of ways to get traffic, but only a few of them are worth your time. If you're a beginner, you should stick with the free ways to get traffic since you probably won't have a lot of money for advertising.

One of the best kinds of free advertising is video marketing. All you do is create 3-5 minute long videos and submit them to the top video sites. Sites such as YouTube, Metacafe, and Google Video are all popular sites and get a lot of traffic to them on a daily basis. You can stand to benefit from the traffic that these sites can deliver to you.

Another way to get traffic is with article marketing. Simply write up 300-500 word articles and submit them to the top article directories. Here are a few of my favorites below:

- EzineArticles.com
- ArticleDashboard.com
- ArticlesBase.com
- GoArticles.com
- IdeaMarketers.com

All of these sites can deliver a ton of hits to your blog. You will want to write on topics that are related to your blog so that you can get targeted visitors. You get search engine traffic when you write for the article directories, and you also get traffic when website owners publish your article on their website.

Another great way to get free traffic is with forum marketing. Sign up to a forum and post helpful messages on the forums. Reserve your advertising message until your signature line as this is the proper place to put your message - so keep this in mind.

Successful blogs have all of these things in common. If you want a blog that is successful, simply follow the tips in this article.

How to run and moderate a follow blog on your website

How to run and moderate a follow blog on your website

By: Richard Beckett

Increasingly, people seem to be removing " from their blog comments.

The main reason for doing this is to increase both traffic and comments. A blog without comments seems rather a desolate place, and people are more likely to comment if there is SEO benefit for them.

The down side of this, however, is that most of their traffic is going to be SEOs pretending to be their client, rather than the intended audience. That said, as people become more aware of the link building side of SEO, then hopefully people will learn that they can do this for themselves, rather than pay an SEO to post on their behalf.

Here are some tips to keep control over your follow blog:

1. Moderate all Posts
Whatever you do, don't let people post straight to your site as any reasonable points will be lost in a mountain of spam.

2. Have strict moderation.
Don't publish any posts which fail to add to the conversation.
This especially means generic ones which say "Love the post", trying to flatter you.
Your post might be brilliant, but they are more likely just lying for the link.

3. Insist on real names, not keyphrases.
You don't want people to have the name "Cheap Iphones" - even Frank Zappa would not call his children that. Something like "Kevin, SEO for Cheap Iphones" is at least an honest name, and helps build up a feel of a community, rather than a spammers convention.

4. Turn off comments on old posts.
You probably only need to do this if you are getting overwhelmed with spammy comments, but a blog is generally to reflect your recent opinions, and you probably do not want to moderate a discussion from months, even years, ago.

5. Only allow people to post links who work in a similar area.
This means that you can build up a community of people who work in the field your blog is about. Most blogs don't appeal to everyone, so only allow comments from your intended audience.

6. Check IP addresses
If the same IP is posting many links, then they are likely to be simply spamming on behalf of clients. Ban IPs which do this.

Your Guide To Blogging Success

Your Guide To Blogging Success

By: Amuro Wesley

If you are new to internet with no idea how to design websites and reluctant to spend money on domain names, web hosting and even web designers, blogs will be the best alternative.

Firstly, blogs are free to set up and everything such as templates and functions to upload images and videos are provided for you. You can easily get your accounts at sites like Blogger and Wordpress which I highly recommend. Because of these factors alone, you can do many things.

If you are just blogging as a hobby, I leave the creativity part to you so long as you follow the necessary guidelines and do not write negative things about others. But if you are like most internet marketers wanting to make a part or full time income from blogs, you may consider these tips as your platform and foundation to greater and quicker success.

Firstly, you need to update your blog with new posts regularly. Major search engines like Google love blogs with new content. They rank them highly and even more so than websites. If you are busy with other things, you need to inform the readers or get a freelancer from Elance or Guru to do for you at a small fee.

Next, you need to find fellow bloggers with high page ranks or PRs in search engines. Get to know them, build their rapport and trust first. Once you established a relationship with them, you can request them to exchange their links with yours. By doing that, you will benefit greatly as you stand a higher chance of being on the first page of search engines. Alternatively, you can inform your family, friends and relatives so long as they support what you do.

The best place to find those bloggers is on Google since Google has a blogging account called Blogger. However, you should only befriend those who are related to your niche. For example if you are promoting about affiliate marketing, you should look for those promoting affiliate marketing and not network marketing or Forex. Because your ultimate goal is to make money online via blogging, nothing else matters.

Apart from getting a free Blogger account with Google, you need to make sure you register with Technorati. Technorati is one of the authority sites which are also highly ranked by search engines and drive the most traffic.

After doing so, sign up at RSS Feed Burner.

For more information on these, you can ask your fellow bloggers.

Besides Blogger, Wordpress is another site where you can easily get a free blogging account. Just as Blogger is supported by Google, Wordpress is supported by Yahoo. But one thing to note is that Wordpress is very much like Ezine Articles which does not allow affiliate links. You need to invest in a domain name and web hosting account. For that, I recommend Mattie Blaze Hosting whereby you can get both of these quickly and easily.

Whether you are creating blogs through Blogger, Wordpress or both, you can get some free yet professional looking blog templates. Just do a Google for those keywords and you should not have problems finding out the links and downloading the free templates from there.

But the main issue is getting the keywords right with your title, domain and content. For your info, keywords are words that most people use to find what they need or want through search engines. Get these right and you may be on your way to earning a lot of money. However, try not to repeat the keywords throughout the blog as most readers do not like it. 2 or 3 times will be fine but not more than that.
