The Apple iPhone is an amazing device that invites  creativity. You've probably said to yourself: 'I wish I  could do that on my iPhone.'

With the iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK), programmers can make your ideas reality - even if you yourself don't know the difference between a C-pointer  and a SQLite database.

More than 200 iPhone application projects have already  been posted on Elance.com. Check out these tips in this article to get  your project kick-started.

We focus on the development of applications for the Apple iPhone, and we asked Nick Dalton, iPhone SDK specialist, to give Elance buyers a few tips on how to scope and post an iPhone Application project. Here’s what he had to say:

The iPhone is an amazing device that invites creativity. If you’re an iPhone owner I’m sure you’ve said to yourself: ‘I wish I could do that on my iPhone, or I have a great idea for an iPhone application’.

With the iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK), programmers can make your ideas reality – even if you yourself don’t know the difference between a C-pointer and a SQLite database. But before you go ahead and post your application idea to the buzzing iPhone project area on www.Elance,com. here are some pointers to get your project kick-started:


Study the Masters
Apple has already spent a lot of time thinking about how to present information and build interactive applications on the iPhone. The applications that come with the iPhone are the results of this research. Study them in great detail and try to apply as many of the user interface metaphors as possible to your application.

Not only will Apple be flattered if you imitate the user interface in their applications, but they actually mandate it to a great level of detail as described in their Human Interface Guidelines.


Dream in Color Screens
Most applications for the iPhone will be very visual. Therefore it makes sense to provide your requirements as screen images or sketches. You don’t have to be a graphics artist to do this effectively. An iPhone programmer is looking for the following information:
- The type of layout each screen should have

- The buttons on the screens

- The actions associated with each button
The exact shape and format of your screen sketches is secondary. As long as they are readable, it’s a great way to communicate your application design to a programmer.


Be Realistic About Your Budget
Look at other iPhone projects posted on Elance to get a sense for the bid amounts on these projects. Read the descriptions of these projects to see if they seem to be larger or smaller projects than what you have in mind. If you set your budget to under $500 for something that is realistically going to take a programmer two months to implement, you are not likely to attract many bidders.

From a programming perspective, some things are easy to do on the iPhone, while other seemingly simple things are very time consuming. For example the beautiful cover-flow animation used in the music application on the iPhone should be simple to use in other applications. Unfortunately you can’t. If you want this animation within your application it will have to be written from scratch, probably costing a one month of work.

If you talk to an approved iPhone developer early in your application design process you can learn how to get most out of your budget by avoiding the things that are really difficult to do on the iPhone.

Don’t Be Too Original
iPhone users already know how to do certain tasks on their phones by convention. For example, if you tap an item in a list that has a > icon next to it, you expect to be taken to another screen with more information about that item. If your application needs similar functionality, don’t be creative and come up with a new way to solve the same problem. Use the conventions already established by Apple.

New conventions are difficult to establish especially with the touch interface because there is no way to discover how your application works on the iPhone. Unlike a website where you can hover with the mouse pointer over areas that look like you can interact with them and a tool tip or the status bar will reveal some clues to you.

Know Your Limitations
The current version of the iPhone SDK, which is used to write applications for the iPhone, has many restrictions and limitations. Some of them are common sense, e.g. you can’t send text messages from an application. Imagine an application that sends out thousands of text messages without your knowledge, who is going to pay the phone bill for that?

Other restrictions are maddening: applications cannot access the log of phone calls, or interact in any way with the calendar or the music stored on the iPhone.

To Apple’s credit, the iPhone SDK is an amazing piece of software especially given that it was publicly released as a Beta just three months ago. Some of the shortcomings listed above will likely be addressed in future releases of the SDK.

As a buyer with an idea for an iPhone application, you should educate yourself about these limitations before you spend too much time designing an application that is impossible to implement. Talk to a developer or company that specializes in iPhone development (and there are many available on Elance) and they can help you get on the right track from the start.

The phone is a true business utility offering. It has built in office applications which are very useful. I was able to use all MS excel formulas in this phone. Phone has amazing sound clarity and the phones speaker is also really good. But on the down side it does not feature FM radio. Another important feature of this phone is Multi-tasking. That is to say, I can listen to music while I play game or while I surf internet. The mobile’s OS is quite stable, but I have seen in a very few instances that some applications do crash while multi-tasking. I am not going to complain that the phone does not have a camera as I never needed one. But for the features it offers at the price, it’s worth having it.

I was looking for a new phone as my current contract was expired, I also considered buying an iPod, but noticed the N91 has a large memory which means instead of getting a phone and iPod I could just get the N91. The music quality is awesome and the connectivity features are extensive. The biggest downside to the N91 it does tend to crash occasionally, although not a major problem you just turn the phone off and then on again, its annoying. By now, you must have heard of Spybubble, a smartphone application that is becoming more and more popular each day. However, many people still wonder, can it really spy on a smartphone? The short answer is "yes, it can." However, for those of you who haven't heard of it or don't know exactly what it does, this review will explain its basic features and advantages.

Let's start with how you get it, which is very simple. Spybubble can be purchased from its website: spybubble.com, and then downloaded into a smartphone that you own. You then create a username and a password that you need to log into the website and look at the activity of the phone. It's that simple. The smartphone will give no indication that Spybubble is running on it, such as icons, logos, beeps, messages, etc.

Once installed, you get access to the full features of the application. Here's a breakdown of its features:

Call Tracking. Spybubble lets you track the calls that are made or received by the smartphone. With your username and password, you'll be able to get access to a log that shows the number or calls made or received, the duration of said calls, and most importantly, the numbers which have called or been called by the smartphone. Also, if a name has been assigned to a number by the user in the phone's memory, you'll be able to see it, making it much easier to identify the caller.

Access to Text Message Contents: Similarly, Spybubble will let you read any text message that is sent or received by the smartphone. In addition to the content, you'll also be able to see any pertinent information regarding the message, such as the time the message was sent or received and the number from which it was sent or received. As with calls, you can also see any name that has been assigned to a number that sent or received a text message. There are some people that erase their messages as soon as they read them or send them, but because messages get registered in the log as soon as it is created, you can still read them even if they are erased from the smartphone.

Phone Location Tracking. With Spybubble, you can always know where the phone (and the user of the phone) is. The software makes the location of the phone available through Google Maps, which you can also access from the Spybubble website.

Remote Call Listening. Spybubble will let you listen to calls from a number that you select and enter in the system. If a call or made to or received from the number you selected, your own mobile (not the mobile with Spybubble installed on it) will automatically receive a text message telling you that the number has been contacted. If you call the mobile that has the Spybubble software installed on at that moment, you'll be able to listen to the call.

Now, based on these features, there three main groups that benefit from Spybubble.

Also, sometimes children and teenagers get into serious problems but refuse to share them with their parents because they are embarrassed, afraid of being punished, or intimidated by bullies or criminals. By reading their text messages, you can find if your child has a problem with drugs, anorexia, bulimia, alcoholism, or unwanted pregnancy. Sometimes the problem comes from an external source, like a bully or a drug dealer that intimidates your son into silence. In any case, you really want to find out and do something about it.

b) Employers who give smartphones to their employees (and pay for them). While most people think that the most common practical application for this group would be to prevent company spying and employees giving secrets away, the truth is much less spectacular: to control expenses and employee attendance.

You see, when an employer gives a smartphone to one of his employees, he expects him to use it for company related purposes, such as calling clients. However, the temptation to make a long distance call to friend or relative and pass it as a client call is big. Also, it is also tempting to call in sick when you're actually at the ball game or visiting some friends. Both of these problems can be detected and corrected with the use of Spybubble.

In fact, it is much cheaper than you think. You don't have to install Spybubble on every mobile phone that your company owns. All you need to do is install it on the phones of a few problematic employees. The moment one is caught, all employees will think they're being monitored.
